The 23 Annual Lonesome Pine Band Festival was held at Caroll Dale Stadium in Wise VA, on October 4th, 1997. This is an event that is sponsored by the J.J. Kelly Band Boosters and hosted by the Kelly band each year.

Parade Competition is held each year in the morning prior to the field competition. Bands may choose to compete in the parade competition but scores are not counted toward the overall Grand Champion of the day.
